Free marketing us to death, if that’s what profitability takes

If mercury is one of the most dangerous pollutants in America, why are power plants receiving so many disincentives to cut mercury emissions?

A month ago, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Inspector General said the EPA ignored scientific expertise and agency procedures in December 2003 when it fast-tracked a mercury “reduction” plan oddly similar to Bush’s own “Clear Skies Act.” Now the Government Accountability Organization (GAO), acting on the request of a bipartisan group of senators, has reached the same conclusion.

Let me count the ways that the Bush Administration doesn’t care about the health and safety of Americans….
