<![CDATA[W. David Stephenson sent me a pointer to his article, "Corporate homeland security a win-win.” It makes the very cogent point that deeply integrated supply chains with robust communication capabilities is just plain good business as he explains:
I believe a similar paradigm shift, from viewing homeland security as a costly burden to seeing it as a competitive advantage, is possible. There are three benefits to companies taking the lead on homeland security strategies that don’t just meet the letter of the law, but do so in a synergistic way.
Increased collaboration, reduced errors because of improved communication and employee empowerment (since organizations can only communicate effectively through their employees — true even with deeply automated processes, since staff needs to be talking about what is automated) are the reasons to view security as a virtuous investment and not just a burden.
Then again, we could just decide to work together without having to view most of the world as dangerously alien. In either case, Stephenson makes it clear that talking amongst ourselves is a better solution to the climate of fear.]]>
