<![CDATA[Remember, you heard it here last June, but now, maybe too late to stop it from being used in the next presidential election, the Department of Defense’ Secure Electronic Registration and Voting Experiment is being criticized as open to abuse that puts our elections at risk. The system has been around for more than three year, but only about 100 people used it in the 2000. This year, however, the system was offered to states as an online voting solution and could be used in as many as 14 states for absentee balloting.
Here’s the report, a PDF file, from the Information Security Institute at Johns Hopkins University that damns the system. Besides the technical problems, it is unconscionable that the Department of Defense, an agency of the executive branch should be counting presidential votes.]]>
