“It isn’t for the most part the higher paying, Western Washington taxpayers who complain about taxes. We see ourselves first as citizens, and as taxpayers only second.”

The eastern part of my state wants to secede. I went to school in the Palouse, the rolling hill country that is full of complaints. I can’t imagine what they are thinking, as these folks argue for cutting themselves off from the majority of state tax revenues while simultaneously endorsing an end to federal support systems for farming (except factory farms). The universities would be gutted and Idaho, where high-tech jobs are going, would eat Eastern Washington’s lunch in any competition for new industry, because the skilled workforce would be shrinking.]]>
