If mercury is one of the most dangerous pollutants in America, why are power plants receiving so many disincentives to cut mercury emissions?
A month ago, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Inspector General said the EPA ignored scientific expertise and agency procedures in December 2003 when it fast-tracked a mercury “reduction” plan oddly similar to Bush’s own “Clear Skies Act.” Now the Government Accountability Organization (GAO), acting on the request of a bipartisan group of senators, has reached the same conclusion.
